Polished Concrete

The concrete polishing process begins with an initial “rough grind” with the use of metal bond diamond tooling depending on the condition of the concrete this is usually a three to four step process. ICC has an experienced polishing crew that knows when to switch to the next finer grit by reading, observing the floors surface and how much material is being removed.

The next step in polishing concrete is a fine grinding/honing process by usingĀ  resin bond diamond tooling. These resin bond segments are again sequenced from coarse to finer grits this is a three to six step process depending on the sheen you want to achieve (matte finish 200- 400 grit, High Gloss 800 grit, Very High Gloss 1500-3000 grit).

When concrete is polished it’s treated with a chemical known as a densifier ICC has multiple shop certifications like FGS Permashine, Prosoco’s Consolideck, Vexcon’s Certishine. Once a floor is densified it becomes dust proof, waterproof and the concrete gets harder. A typical warranty for a polished concrete floor that has been densified is between 10 and 20 years. The warranty is for the floor to remain dust proof, waterproof and it also provides abrasion resistance. There are optional sealers that may be used to further enhance the floors beauty and to provide resistance to food stains and common chemicals.

IMG_0323A polished concrete floor is beautiful in its natural state but the decorative possibilities are endless with the use of L & M’s Vivid dye or AmeriPolish Dye. The finish can also be a Terrazzo finish like the image below at Highland High Schools Figge Hall in Albuquerque, New Mexico. To see different finishes with and without dye go to our portfolio page.

As you can see from reading above the concrete polishing process is task driven you can not complete step 3 until you complete steps 1 and 2. We never take shortcuts! The best concrete polishing company in Albuquerque, New Mexico is just a phone call away.
